Civil & Peace Education

Civil & Peace Education is a foundational focus area. We empower young people with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to build peaceful communities, participate meaningfully in civic life, and uphold democratic values. Through interactive, inclusive, and rights-based programming, we cultivate informed citizens capable of dialogue, respect, and constructive engagement.

YARD-Liberia, demonstrated its commitment to democratic integrity by actively participating in key national elections.

  • During the Special Senatorial Election of 2020, YARD-Liberia played a civic role aligned with the standards overseen by the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC), which had issued Writs of Election and accredited observers and agents for that election
  • In the 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections, the NEC again formalized the accreditation of political party agents, media representatives, and observers for the electoral process running from June to September 2023
  • While reports of who exactly was accredited are limited, our involvement as a youth-centered civic organization during that period underscores our dedication to credible democratic practice.
  • Civil & Peace Education builds social cohesion, helps reduce conflict, and nurtures active, informed citizenship cornerstones for Liberia’s lasting peace and democratic growth.
  • Our involvement during key election cycles reinforces our role as a trustworthy civil society actor, committed to transparency, youth empowerment, and safeguarding democratic processes.
