PRESS STATEMENT :YARD-Liberia, Inc. Calls for Immediate Action on Governance Issues at Margibi University

February 9, 2024: Margibi County, Liberia – YARD-Liberia, Inc. expresses deep
concern over the troubling governance issues unfolding at Margibi University,
particularly the autocratic leadership of Dr. Konneh, the President’s Advisor on
Education.

Findings from YARD-Liberia, Inc., based on discussions with members of the
University Board, indicate that key decisions are being made without the Board’s
involvement or approval. The current University President, Dr. [Name], was
vetted solely by Dr. Konneh and his associates, excluding the Board from the
selection process. Since his appointment, there has been no financial
accountability or transparency in university operations.

Furthermore, Dr. Konneh’s unilateral control over the university’s affairs is a
serious threat to governance, accountability, and academic integrity. Among the
major concerns raised are:

 Unauthorized capital spending without Board approval
 Planned graduation without consulting the Board
 Intimidation and disregard for governance structures
The continued marginalization of the University Board undermines the
institution’s credibility and disrupts its ability to function as a center of learning
and development. Margibi University is a public institution that must be governed
with transparency, fairness, and inclusion.

CALL TO ACTION
In light of these pressing issues, YARD-Liberia, Inc. calls on the Margibi Legislative
Caucus to urgently intervene and address these concerns to restore good
governance at Margibi University. We request a formal meeting to discuss the
situation and ensure that corrective measures are taken to uphold the university’s
credibility, integrity, and accountability.

We cannot afford to allow an institution of higher learning to be hijacked by
personal interests and authoritarian leadership. Education governance must
remain transparent and inclusive for the benefit of students, faculty, and the
larger Margibi community.
